silicone vs rubber o ring

Project details

Silicone O-rings and rubber O-rings are common sealing components with some differences in properties and applications.

Silicone O-ring is a sealing element made of silicone rubber, belonging to a single component room temperature vulcanized liquid rubber product. Once exposed to air, the silane monomers in it undergo condensation, forming a network structure, cross-linking the system, unable to melt and dissolve, elastic, and forming a rubber product state. Its thermal conductivity is slightly higher than that of ordinary rubber products, and once solidified, it is difficult to separate the bonded objects. Silicone O-rings are highly elastic polymer compounds, including both unvulcanized and vulcanized varieties. It has excellent high-temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and compression resistance, so it is widely used in various sealing and water blocking situations. In addition, silicone O-rings also have high transparency and anti mold properties.

Rubber O-ring is a type of sealing ring with an O-ring cross-section, usually made of natural rubber or synthetic rubber. It has excellent elasticity and resilience, and can be used for static and dynamic sealing, such as in fields such as automobiles and machinery. However, rubber O-rings are prone to oxidation at high temperatures, have poor oil resistance, acid and alkaline resistance, and are easily affected by some chemicals.

Overall, there are differences in properties and applications between silicone O-rings and rubber O-rings. Silicone O-rings have better high-temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and compression resistance, making them suitable for more demanding sealing environments. Rubber O-rings are widely used in some conventional sealing situations. The specific application needs to be selected based on actual needs.
